Operation Truth, the great organization of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, is coming to Congress tomorrow to tell lawmakers on both sides ofthe aisle the truth about the wars, from the unprecedented use of the
National Guard on the frontlines, the continuing
armor shortage, and the back-door draft of
stop-loss.
They need to raise $10,000 by tomorrow to fund the trip. They're almost there. Let's put them over the top (and add $.01 to let them know it's from Daily Kos).
We want to bring a number of our member veterans to take part in the meetings. Their testimony is the most powerful argument for addressing the needs of our men and women in uniform. They can put a face on issues ranging from Humvee armor to PTSD. Here are the Vets we want to bring to Washington:
- Perry Jefferies lives in Copperas Cove, TX, and helps reach out to OpTruth's new member veterans.
- Robert Acosta, from Santa Anna, CA, starred in OpTruth's television ad last fall.
- Abbie Pickett, from Madison, WI, joined the National Guard at the age of 17.
- Herold Noel, from Brooklyn, NY, spent several months homeless after returning from Iraq.
- Ben Flanders, from Concord, NH, served in OIF2, returning stateside only a few months ago.
- Paul Rieckhoff, from New York, NY, is the Executive Director of Operation Truth.
The cost of plane tickets, hotel rooms and missed days of work quickly adds up. That's where you come in:
We're trying to raise $10,000 to go towards this trip and future lobbying efforts in Washington. Your contribution will go directly towards our efforts to put the truth about Iraq, and it's effect on our troops, squarely in front of the policy makers in Washington. Here's where your contribution could go:
-$500 will pay for Robert's flight to DC.
-$125 will pay for one night in a hotel for one of the vets.
-$50 will feed the Vets for a day (we can survive on pizza).
So please, contribute now, and thank you for continuing to really support the troops.
Sincerely,
Paul Rieckhoff, OIF Veteran
Executive Director
