Gadzooks, we libs sure are dumb sometimes. We all need to read Sun Tzu's
The Art of War before we play right into their hands -- again. The conservative reaction to Mier, her donation to Al Gore -- it is a smokescreen designed to let her slide right under the radar undetected. They know that by playing the ruse of pretending to oppose the nomination, we will be so thrilled and distracted that we will fail to ask the tough questions.
Gush Liebone is a jerk, but he's no idiot. When old Gush goes on the attack against Shrubbie's latest Supreme Court nominee, you'd have to be suffering from post nasal drip of avian flu proportions not to smell a rat. By having conservatives "oppose" the nomination, they steal any liberal thunder in doing the same. Forget the gloating about conservative "turmoil" over the choice -- like everything else these master manipulators do, that's pure perception management. The questions we all ought to be asking ourselves are these: What in tarnation do we know about this person, and what hangs in the balance?
In 1989 I would have said that any judge who opposed Roe was a radical not to be confirmed. Now things are much more dire, and Roe is the least of our worries. Nowadays, we would be well advised to have serious doubts as to whether this judge will defend the Constitution. What will happen to Tom Delay's case when Bush's crony hears it? What will the prospective justice have to say about the cases relating to torture which will surely be brought before the court in the coming years? What will the judge think about your door being bashed in and you being hauled off in the middle of the night, held without charges, incommunicado on suspicion of being an enemy combatant?
Let's not give this nominee a free pass just because Gush Liebone the drug addled fascist propagandist said some nasty things about her. In fact, let's recognize that these people fight dirty and understand the value of deception. The fact that conservatives "oppose" this nomination means nothing; the fact that this nominee could almost singlehandedly amount to the straw that breaks the camel's back with regard to the rights we all hold dear means everything.
