The media is supposedly the fourth estate, well is the blog world now the fifth estate, is it now up to us to be a check on the all the others when they seem to all be corrupt and cronyistic within themselves. I would say yes. But that's not what I want to talk about today. I would like to discuss the 2005 governorships and the 2006 senate races, and how the blog world can affect them and turn them into Blue victories.
I think the blog world can contribute three things to the 2005 and 2006 races.
- Finally a Dem. Echo Chamber, if bloggers can do a Dan Rather type blow to the Republicans on anything, we will have advanced the power of Blogs immensely.
- Fundraising of course, but that's a duh. But I have a query on whether the main bloggers should focus on a top 5 or top 10 together. I think if there was an interblog harmony on 5 or 10 candidates that everyone could fund. We might get a better haul if we bet on a few with a lot of money, then spread our money around on a lot of candidates. Not sure though.
3.Getting out the message. If anything keeping people interested in these races is crucial. Have the reason incumbents win in mid-terms is because turn-out is so low. I think if Moveon.org and A.C.T. could work on NJ and VA during 2005 and a handful of close states in 2006 we would have enormous victories. The machinery of those organizations is still there, we need to use it.
4. DNC. I'm for reform. From whoever wants to wear the mantle of reform. I think we need candidates who can win in the South. I don't think the South is so bleak as people make it out to be. I think we just have to find someone who speaks in ways and issues that people can understand there. The Liberal label isn't as huge in the south as coming off as elitist, that killed Kerry, he didn't look common man enough for a lot of people in the South. SOMEHOW rich-boy Bush did, which is like freaking Rove's work of genius. Ughh..i hate Rove, and Bush, and November made my head hurt.
Look, I'm a college student, but I'm willing to throw myself into campaign after campaign to help the democrats win here in Virginia. Durint the election I got out there and ran meet-ups, I went door to door, used my cell phone to make house calls, and worked the polls on election day. I did my part. Did you do all YOU could. If not, you have 2005 and 2006 to make up for it, get out, DO SOMETHING. Actions speak louder then words, if you say you don't like the republicans and want a new democratic majority. I suggest like myself you go out and make one.
I'm currently working on a project to make an Anti-Tom Davis website my republican congressmen, and I'm working for the Tim Kaine campaign. But i'm poor so I haven't donated money, so I guess its my trade-off. But for those of you who have done neither, just look at Washington. Gregiore won by 142 votes. That's LESS then my high school graduating class. That's less then my BIOLOGY class at school. GO MAKE EVERY VOTE COUNT!!!!
