There is always something else you have to consider.....
''Webb fits Obama's narrative as someone who is "outside of Washington", is able to cross aisles to get things done (Webb's bipartisan GI Bill that is sponsored with Hagel and Warner), he is a Reagan Democrat who will appeal to this demographic particularly in Michigan, is a Scottish-Irish Appalachian who would help Obama not only in West Virginia/Kentucky areas but more importantly in Ohio/Pennsylvania as well as Mountain states since he is pro-guns (Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, etc).
Webb also has a great economic message that appeals to the working class White America.
Most importantly, Webb wrote something very interesting in the Wall Street Journal in which he said if we could get African-Americans and Appalachian whites together, we Dems could CHANGE the electoral map. I totally agree.
His drawback is the 70's article that he wrote "Why Women Can't Fight". As a woman, I am not bothered by Webb for he has explained that article. Hillary Clinton did indeed campaign for him and can vouch for him as well as other female senators so that can be smooth over.
I still think that an Obama-Webb ticket would be a WINNING ticket for the Fall''.
Someone wrote that in a diary on Webb as VP. But they missed something important about Webb. His wife is Asian. Vietnamese Asian to be precise.
I know it is a bummer, cause to all intent and purposes, Webb would have been perfect for Obama.
Jim Webb will as a result never be President. He knows that.
He will never be elected president as his wife is Asian. That's the truth guys.
Jim Webb won the senate by only a squeaker against George Allen.
By heavy turnout in the Northern VA/DC surburbs. He lost everywhere else.
Somehow in this change election. Change might be just too much change.
Same goes for Katherine Sebelius. Nice as she is. No one knows her and Obama will not win Kansas in the fall. No matter how hard he tries these. Not going happen.
America can accept Obama. But she won't vote in Webb for President.
Yes. McCain has a adopted 'Asian' daughter. But in this election year. He is sending her on a one way ticket out of the country for the next 6 months. That's the truth.
Yes the Asian vote is important.... In California. Where Obama will win anyway.
Otherwise the Asian vote is too small to make a difference versus the risk anywhere else.
Please don't flame me or troll rate me. I come with very good intentions of hoping for a Obama victory.
This diary is put out to get this information and for us to discuss it.
We need cold hard thinking. No more idealism.
Update: This entry on here hits the nail on the head.
A valid point. Instead of calling the diarist racist, let's actually try to understand his point. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Webb being married to an Asian-American. However, a lot of Webb's appeal is that he can supposedly bring in the votes from "poor, blue collar, Appalachian whites". Why? Because he is "one of them". This is not necessarily my reasoning, but the reasoning of a very large number of people who look at Webb as the best VP candidate. The GOP shines the spotlight enough on Webb's wife, and all of a sudden, Webb is no longer "one of them". I don't see why it is so difficult to imagine such a scenario.
Finally, yes Obama is black and we can win with that. Webb's wife's race will not hurt Obama with the voters he is already set to win at all. But lot's of people have been saying Webb would bring in voters Obama otherwise wouldn't be able to, and I can see Webb's wife's race being a problem. I frankly don't care for the votes of such people and think the Obama campaign should look for a way to win without them, but lots of Webb advocates want to win with the same people who would probably have issues with his wife's race. by vednam on Mon May 26, 2008 at 12:44:37 PM PDT

I suggest Mark Warner. He looks presidential. He brings considerable experinence and Virginia is just begging to go blue this year and he is the only one who can really flip it.
Don't worry about the seat in the senate. Joe Lierberman in 2000 ran while holding down his seat. It's not a major issue.
The presidency trumpets the senate.

You're nearly there Barack.
