Today (May 9th, 2005) media industry publication Adverstising Age(subscription only) published this important tidbit of news on Fox's effort to extend its brand. It comes from a fly-on-the-wall report from a meeting with TV ad buyers as the Fox reps present their reach:
"Given the increasing importance of linking TV buys to more measurable media, the inevitable question comes: 'What numbers does your website do?' asks a young guy in chinos. 'Five million unique visitors a month, and we're hoping to get a portal deal,' comes the answer. Fox News is in talks with Yahoo! about a possible distribution deal, but there are few other details on that."
I really hope this diary does not get ignored because this inside trade info that Fox News is currently in negotiations with Yahoo! for major carriage on their news feeds is an opportunity for activists to actually do something to stop the spread of Faux News. We can organize pressure on Yahoo! to not carry Fox dispatches on its news portal, and not carry Fox news feeds in its excellent and popular My Yahoo! service.
This is really important people. What can be done? Who has ideas? Who has contacts at Yahoo!, and in the greater Yahoo! community? Ideas, thoughts? Please help collaborate. Thanks.
