Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark got three
standing ovations in Merrimack, New Hampshire as he launched
another blistering attack on Bush, Karl Rove, and Tom DeLay. He
stressed the need for the Democratic Party to stand up to
Republicans and not compromise as much. In a crowd of over 450
that included former Dean supporters who had switched to Clark,
he strongly reaffirmed his allegiance to the Democratic Party
which he choose after retirement from a non-partisan military
career. Clark continues to gain momentum as Dean, who is locked in a
fierce four way tie in polls in Iowa, has dropped into the 20s in
tracking polls in New Hampshire and is now only narrowly ahead of
Clark.
Im Karl Roves biggest nightmare. I never called
Karl Rove, and I was never going to be a Republican. Dont
believe everything you read on the Internet. That quote came from
a Republican
Electability was very much on the minds of some of those in
attendance. David Gilmour, 63, Hollis, retired doctor is one who
has switched his support from Dean to Clark believing Clark can
win the presidency, he said. I have a Dean placard in the
front of my house and Ive been bending the last two weeks.
The only question for me is who has the best chance of beating
Bush and I thought Dean did. Gilmour said, Clark s
diplomacy skills in particular impress him.
Les Quinn, 57, from Hudson is political science professor who
says he will likely vote for Clark. This is the second time
Ive been to a Wesley Clark event. The first time I was very
definitely an undecided voter and now I probably will commit to
him, Quinn said. Clark has the broadest national appeal and
is the most electable based on the electoral map, he said. Ive
looked at all of the other candidates in that framework to see
who has the best chance to maintain every state that Al Gore won
and add one more state to it. And in that light Ive come to
believe that Wesley Clark has the best chance to accomplish that.
