Disclaimer: I voted for Obama, even gave my symbolic $20.08 once.
Obama is an extremely smart and talented politician. He knows what he's doing. It is also clear that he feels an urgent need to defuse potential tensions with Israel-firsters in the Democratic constituency. However, he has already done enough. Today he did too much.
Until now, Obama has been placing himself somewhat left-of-center of the Israeli domestic map. Today he moved right of center, closely aligned with Olmert. He also voiced ridiculous platitudes that have nothing to do with reality - and unlike the clueless McCain, Obama knows the reality.
Ok, all's fair in politics. But consider this: it reflects poorly on a campaign for change and standing up to lobbyists, to begin the post-primary victory round by pandering to the Mother of All Lobbies, where many of the "Muslim" emails circulated.
It is also sad, that a campaign epitomizing the entry of blacks to the political process, keeps telling Palestinians - and also us, Israeli progressives who speak out at great personal cost - that they don't really count, that we'll all have to wait until it's "convenient enough".
Exactly what blacks were told in the 1950's.
(edited to add the lobbyists term)
