Two Marine F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets, flying a support mission, were lost in Iraq. Contact was lost, nothing recovered yet, at 10:10PM (there).
The Pentagon reports this was likely a mid-air collision. They claim bad weather but that claim accompanies all the aerial mishap reports that I have seen. Certainly though, it seems likely that the Pentagon's indication that no ground fire was noted, indicates the likelihood of collision. It would probably take a noticeable amount of ground fire to take out two jets at once.
All I want to indicate here is sorrow that these crewmen are incommunicado, and hope for their safe return. I don't even know how many crewmen are missing because our broken media refers to the loss of "jets," not men. *Actually there are women on combat flights now, aren't there?
