Liars have a certain "advantage" over truth-tellers. When you tell the truth, you have only your one story. Liars, on the other hand, have infinite variations of the "truth" and are always making up new lies and continually weaving them into the fabric of reality.
Maybe a "good lie" works because it uses many pieces of the truth and then distorts and up-ends other pieces. It's possible that some people, hearing the many accurate facts, overlook the inaccuracies and downright distortions and, yes, lies.

I've been pondering: what is it that absolutely drives me nuts about the lies, distortions, misattributions, illogical thinking, and just plain nastiness of this administration's assertions and judgments about Iraq, taxes, social security, heathcare, WMD, torture, and so on? Is the absolute number of lies that have been told? Is it the fracturing of all reason every chance they get? Is it their assumption of stupidity on the part of citizens? Is it my helplessness in the face of all their incompetence and its results? Is it the hypocrisy which pervades every act and aspect of their governance? Or is it all of this - just piling up and up and up - with no end in sight till 3 years from January?
