Inside Politics:
On Bill Schneider's recent story on the Bosnia/Iraq connection, Scheider inserted several highly partisan editorial comments and cleverly edited and juxtaposed Dean's and Bush's comments to paint the most negative picture possible of Dean and Democrats.
Specifically:
- He claimed Dean's position on Kosovo and Iraq are inconsistent, failing to analyse the differences between these two actions (for example, Kosovo is in NATO's back yard) and situations (a policy of genocide in Kosovo).
- He showed Bush's support of the action in Kosovo but did not point out that this tape was from AFTER the war, and that previosly then Gov. Bush had refused to take a position. Also he failed to note Bush's criticisms in the debates of the CLinton administrations actions in Kosovo.
- He concluded the piece by saying that Dean's inconsistencies are par for the course for his being a Democrat.
This piece was highly manipulative and that last comment was highly partisan. I deliberately watch CNN instead of Fox News but I will be re-evaluating my choice if CNN has also sunk to the level of playing blatantly partisan politics.
I also thought you would give more credit to your viewers, particularly those of inside politics, for being intelligent and savvy enough to spot such manipulations.
