"Rep. Bob Beauprez (R-Colo.) announced Thursday he will not run for the seat held by retiring Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.), leaving Republicans without anyone to take on Democratic Attorney General Ken Salazar."
"The freshman congressman said the time was not right for him to run for the Senate seat. "I never could get comfortable in the pit of my stomach" with the idea of a Senate race, said Beauprez, a former state GOP chairman.
Beauprez said Republicans had fought hard to win his 7th Congressional District seat -- the congressman won by 121 votes in his 2002 race -- and that he wanted to continue focusing on the economy and national security in the House.
Beauprez's announcement -- less than 24 hours after Rep. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) and Democrat Rutt Bridges departed the Senate race to rally around Salazar -- leaves Republicans with three leading Senate candidates: former Rep. Bob Schaffer and Reps. Scott McInnis and Tom Tancredo."
That Senate seat pick up is looking better and better...
