The media cartel is more insidious and more dangerous than the cocaine cartel and OPEC combined. The media cartel has successfully lobotomized a majority of Americans and filled their vacuous cranial cavities with a mix of Republican propaganda and consumerism that is driving the country to the brink of ruin. Something must be done. (more below the fold)
The Democratic Party should come out strongly and unequivocally in favor of breaking up the stranglehold corporate media has on the flow of information to Americans. This should be in the Democratic platform and would undoubtedly be very popular in the country. Of course, the immediate response from most Democrats to this proposal would be fear. Fear that the corporate media will turn on them. To this I answer, WAKE UP! Corporate media is in full collaboration with the Republican Party. They are enemies of Democrats and the general public alike. Contrary to the fears of most Democratic politicians, taking on the corporate media will show these unethical, amoral behemoths that there is a price to be paid for choosing sides, especially when you choose against democracy and the American people.
The corporate media cartel bears a large part of the blame for the Iraq war. They also carry much of the blame for the health care crisis and environmental disasters facing America. Their first responsibility is to the executive leadership, then comes the shareholders and then maybe the public. If the corporate interests differ from those of the general public, it is the public that loses every time. Their hands are anything but clean.
Breaking up the corporate media cartel in America is essential to restoring some semblance of democracy. Otherwise, corporate media, in concert with their Republican partners, will short circuit every progressive and democratic move that could be taken. These five corporations that control what Americans see, hear and think must be taken on. They have become too powerful and too destructive a force in the life politic of America. Where does your senator and representative stand on this issue? Call them or write to find out.
Bills and resolutions must be offered to start the process of breaking up the media cartel. Once that is begin, the grassroots/netroots communities need to keep the pressure on.
