A few weeks ago, Angela Tuck of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (aka AJC) issued an open call in the print edition for interested readers to come inside.
Her proposal was that readers could come to observe the editorial process of putting together this particular daily newspaper.
I responded by email, as Angela suggested, and have since been invited and confirmed to join in. A few more details below.
Angela Tuck said, in email sent out today, that response to her initial invitation was good, to the point that they have added a second session, and divided the respondents into two groups.
The first group will be invited in tomorrow. I have been invited to attend on August 25. The agenda so far looks like this:
We'll start the day with lunch, where you'll have an opportunity to meet our senior editors and ask questions about the newspaper. After lunch, we have a variety of activities planned that will exposure you to how the newspaper comes together. At 3:30 p.m. you'll attend our daily news meeting, where decisions are made about what stories will go where in the next day's newspaper. After that meeting, we'll close the day with a Q&A session with editor Julia Wallace and managing editor Hank Klibanoff.
I plan to report back here on the results of my "field trip" to the AJC. I've already corresponded with Angela as to my reason for attending, and my particular political point of view.
I look forward to sharing the results of this experience with the community.
And of course, there may be other Kossacks who have signed up for the same event. I'd like to hear from you; perhaps we can compare notes, before and/or after the event.
