The "NUMBERS" column on page 17 of the March 13, 2006 issue of TIME magazine states: "85% Proportion" [of U.S. troops in Iraq] "who say the main mission in Iraq is to retaliate for Saddam's role in 9/11."
While TIME's statement does not say that the troops are correct in their assessment, TIME does not point out that there was no connection between Saddam and 9/11. They leave the impression that there was a connection, since the troops think there was a connection. That does a great disservice to those who may not be aware of the oringins of the Iraq war and of 9/11, particularly young people who are just now growing old enough to deserve accurate historical information.
It is sad that 85% of our troops in Iraq think they are fighting, sacrificing, and dying for a Bush lie that they believe to be the truth.
