So is it just that many more people
lied to exit pollers this year than in the past?
I voted for Kerry. I gave him money. I gave money to the Greens for the recount. I so much want there to be fraud and have Kerry put in the White House.
Having said all that, I do have a theory about the discrepent exit polls that has been nibbling away at the back of my mind. This was crystallized by listening to Randi Rhodes on the drive home last night. It seems like alot of Bush voters cannot give a coherent reason why they voted for him, even to close family members. So are we seeing the fruits of the Rovian reptile brain approach? Has the "all terror, all the time" message short circuited many higher brain functions? Our tongue and cheek, "don't change horsemen in the middle of an apocolypse" actually resonates with alot of people.
A caller on Randi Rhodes told of his sister who was in tears the day after the election. She intellectually agreed with all the Democratic positions but pulled the lever for Bush. People in such degree of cognitive dissonance may well just outright lie to the exit poller. Perhaps the "security mom" vote was actually there in reality even though not many admit to it to pollsters.
