Repost of my comment of "It's our party and we'll cry if we want to"
How about pro-life Democrats like myself who have never voted for a Republican, leave the party. Instead of 48% of the vote...maybe those in the party that think the Democratic pro-lifers who STILL remain in the party are also the enemy--should leave the party...maybe they will be happy with 40% or 35% of the popular vote.
Women are at home in the Democratic Party and without them we wouldn't be what we are today...so, instead of them leaving...I propose that pro-life Democrats like myself (who don't vote on the issue but truly believe in the principle--unlike Republicans) make the ultimate sacrifice to the party we have always loved and commit party affiliation suicide.
We would probably have to create our own party of pro-life progressives who value feminism without sacrificing equal pay, child care, living wages, health care, the environment, and personal responsibilty at the political alter of abortion.
Somehow, I don't think that a permanent minority Democratic party and a small pro-life progressive party could challenge the Republicans but it would pacify many pro-choice proponents fears of evil infiltration by Republicans in their party.
Because we all know that pro-life progressives like myself who truly believe in protecting the least among us and the responsibility that it entails ARE evil.
People must understand that being pro-life (as a Democrat) doesn't mean you want Roe v. Wade overturned but that what drives us as humans is to protect and fight for ALL of humanity and not to sacrifice our ideals, our agenda, and the goodwill of the American people to vehmently fight for an issue where it appears (unfair or not) that abortion is more important than all of these issues (most notably the recent fight to protect late-term abortions)
