Glenn Beck tells Arthur Laffer that America is turning into the USSR and that Pravda, which until 1991 was the official media outlet of the former Communist Party in the USSR and is now an online publication that offers "a pro-Russian approach," is doing a better job covering the U.S. than the American press.
BECK: Do you ever read Pravda?
LAFFER: I did read Pravda.
BECK: Did you read that? Where they’re like what is wrong with the Republicans? We’re watching what happened to Russia. Pravda gives us more truth than the American press.
Okay...in Glenn Beck's crazy little world:
- Pravda is still relevant. M'kay.
- Pravda is better than the American press. M'kay.
- America is turning into the USSR. M'kay.
Of course, it's always possible that Beck really isn't a huge Pravda fan and instead, he was using humor to make a (still loony) point. In fact, maybe it's likely.
But as long he's going to take every joke that everybody else in the world has uttered out of context, don't you think it's time that he be sent before Michele Bachmann's un-American thought crimes panel to be set straight?
Of course, maybe Beck really is seriously concerned about propaganda in American media. If he is, his first order of business should be to stop watching Fox, because it's not news.
