As reported today at the NYTimes, Bush has threatened to veto a new Highway Bill that Congress is set to
vote on. Presumably Bush wants to veto the bill because its $318 billion price tag will further enlarge his record deficit.
Among other things (including helping to repair our eroding infrastructure), the bill would create 1 million new jobs.
Yes, that is right, the president who has the worst jobs record since Herbert Hoover is threatening to veto a bill that would create 1 million new jobs.
I guess he must really believe his own rhetoric about the job market improving on its own.
Says one of the bill's chief sponsors:
Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., said the bill was ``the most important economic development bill and job-creating bill, I believe, in this session of Congress.''
Further:
The Senate showed its willingness to confront the veto threat with a 78-20 vote to defeat an amendment by Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., to reduce the funding to the president's $256 billion limit.
With Democrats generally supporting the bill, Republicans were fighting among each other.
What are you waiting for? Get on it Dems!!!
