Ya know, when I was in high school - ages hence, it was early in the watergate days - journalism was the most admired profession among my peers. Half the class wanted to become journalists.
The lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, and now the current primary coverage, have made me realize that there is no profession in America for which I now have less respect than journalism.
Ain't that sad?
I don't mean they're all biased one way or another, though some doubtless are, nor that they're all fools, though some obviously are, but so very very many of them are far far more interested in getting a headline than in representing the world around them.
So why aren't there a slew of journalist jokes, like there are of lawyer jokes? Sure there are good lawyers, I know some myself, but... And sure there are good journalists - I suppose - but...
Restore some perspective - our own and theirs. Tell a journalist joke. And pass it on.
