Katherine Harris is putting her fist down and taking her grass roots campaign to THE PEOPLE in an impressive way:
Harris links Sen. Nelson to Riscorp.
Just look at that Determination!!!
Here's the background on this Breaking News:
In the early 1990s, Riscorp employees were asked to contribute to specific candidates. The employees were later reimbursed with bonus checks. The company used the scheme to pay out $380,000 in illegal contributions to 23 state, local and federal candidates.
Harris is right - Bill Nelson was caught up in this corruption - it's time for the truth to come to light:
Nelson, then running for state insurance commissioner, received $62,500 in 1994 from the workers' compensation insurance company.
Senator Nelson, obviously caught with his hand in the cookie jar, then tried to cover his tracks:
The week after Riscorp executives were indicted in 1997, Nelson, the state's insurance commissioner, ordered the company to refund $383,500 in donations to the company's policy holders. He also ordered that another $49,000 be given to the state's Division of Elections to repay public campaign costs triggered by the illegal donations.
Katherine's hard work in exposing Senator Nelson is to be commended. Pfft to those who belittle her as if she was some sort of Zell Lieberman.
I mean really, get a grip people, how bad can she be if the Rove and Bush families are working to undermine her grass roots campaign.
One thing though. Katherine Harris also took money from Riscorp, and here's how she handled it:
It wasn't until almost a year after the indictments that Harris tried to rid herself of her donations, McLaughlin said. In August 1998, Harris sent $20,292 to a state fund to fight voter fraud. Her donation, all from her personal money and not from the campaign fund, was offered three weeks before her primary election for secretary of state, and days after her primary opponent, Sandra Mortham, donated money she received from Riscorp to the same fund.
Problem solved - God is on her side...
But, Katherine may want to stop pressing her luck with God. Here's what she did after she won the election:
Harris later hired former Riscorp lobbyist Dan Berger to be her chief of staff after she was elected to Congress in 2002.
I'm trying to be non-partisan here. So let me end this diary with thoughts from Democratic and Republican strategists.
First up:
Nelson's spokesman, Dan McLaughlin, called Harris' accusation "insane."
I have to say, that's not very professional of Mr. McLaughlin. Does he really expect to win votes that way?
And, Harris' former campaign manager Jim Dornan:
"It is absolutely insane that she is bringing attention to that issue," Dornan said.
Hmm, not very nice - I wonder what Harris ever did to Dornan besides hire him.
So, I'm sure you can see why I am with Harris on this and just had to diary about her "Switch-Grass Roots" campaign.
You go girl!
