Remember, we can't do it without you!
It is the last day of 2009. For us, it was not a great year, and we're happy to bid it adieu. Still, we are still happy together, our health is good, and we have a roof over our heads. The only family member we lost this year died last night - Starbuck, the cockatiel. She was found dead in her cage this morning.
RIP, Starbuck. You were a sweetie.
So, we checked on Rich's parents a little while ago, and they are still kicking, although they are slowing down. We can tell because they no longer go to the casino at Delaware Park every night. I'm sure the penny slots will miss them. They still make it to church once a week, though, and I think that's important for them.
Looking forward, Rich has a good chance at another county contract job. He was interviewed on Tuesday, and told they'd call back in a week for a second interview, if he made it to the final two. They called the following day, and the interview is next Wednesday. Cross your fingers for us; we've been a month without steady income and we're looking forward to some stability.
I'm practicing frugal cooking and cleaning these days, and plan to continue that into the New Year. Some of what I make will be foraged - we made a dawn raid on a couple of lemon trees this morning! - and I plan to make the most out of whatever food we do have to buy. Not only that, I made my own laundry detergent this week, and it was a success!
Fiber arts will still be a major part of my life next year. I'm developing some new products for my online store, and hope to dramatically increase my inventory and my sales.
Anyway, enough about my year past and year to come. What about you? Do you have definite resolutions goals for 2010? Will it be a better year than the one we are leaving behind? My Magic 8 Ball says "It may be so". Fingers crossed that it is.
On to the comments! All of these lovely people sent their nominations in to the Top Comments mailbox at TopComments AT gmail DOT com. We hope you'll do the same.

This comment from luvsathoroughbred in Hlinko's "Ass Clown of the Year" diary, holds nothing back in a description of Glenn Beck and Joe Lieberman.

I thought Its the Supreme Court Stupid's comment was so dead on, very worthy of a mention.

From bronte17:
Dengre provides outstanding analysis in his diary, Two Right-wing Memes That Infect Our Politics:
First: that the Government is always the problem, and
Second: that all politics and policy battles are always binary conflicts.
and in this comment he masterfully lays out the big differences in why the FDL/Norquist alliance is wrong and how it completely submits and validates the RW’s talking points and frame."
ferallike gives an excellent response in Congressman Massa’s diary Bring it on Dick Cheney and Jim Demint. Her hubby is a 24-year veteran of the CIA and she skewers the chickenhawk’s trash talk.
Jerome a Paris has a comment that explains the double standards of the Joe Kleins in his excellent diary Obama is better than the extreme right.
One of the talents of the right is to taint all of the left with its minority harder voices...
From dww44:
From nyceve's diary "Our Seminal Moment" this comment titled Social Darwinism by Stuart Heady perfectly and succinctly encapsulates what health care reform is all about.
