my brain works in mysterious ways. somehow, while reading an article today, it made the leap from "a recount must be requested by a losing candidate" to "make bush pull a recount."
and then it ran with it - can the winner not request a recount be done? shrub got himself a mandate, didn't he - what has he to fear from a recount? surely putting such questions to rest could only enhance his legitimacy; how better to prove to the world that he is the American President, of the people, for the people, by the people.
conversely, think of how awful it would look for him to turn down such a request. pull out all the stops - disenfranchisement, errant vote tallies, threats to democracy, transparency and accountability, civil rights, the whole nine yards - and watch him squirm as he tries to come up with some defensible rationale for not fighting for democracy in America. how can we export what we haven't mastered?
i'm having giggle fits again just typing this now. methinks i'm too easily amused. hope you are too!
