The Senate dispatched with Nelson's coathanger amendment was tabled today in a 54-45 vote, effectively killing it for now. The Democrats voting with Nelson in support of his amendment were Conrad, Pryor, Casey, Dorgan, and Bayh. Nelson's threat of filibustering the bill without his language still stands, so what happens next for the larger bill is up in the air.
