I was flipping through the channels tonight and came across a special on the Discovery Channel aptly titled "Greatest American". Much to my chagrin listed in the final 25 nominees was the smirking chimp himself, George W. Bush.
"George W. Bush, seeing us through our darkest days." Gag me please.
Now I know there are a lot of people who think Bush is the savior of this country, and I am worried that those people just might flood the competition given that there are 24 other people to spread the remaining votes across. It seems unfair to rank a contemporary with such greats as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Albert Einstein (this is the only place good ol' Bush will be compared to Einstein, you can bet on that).
Voting instructions here: Greatest American
So, I encourage everyone to go to the Discovery site and vote for someone deserving of the title of Greatest American.
What has Bush done? We are mired in a war in Iraq. We have a soaring budget deficit. 9/11 occured during Bush's watch. We're breeding terrorists at an alarming rate with our heavy handed tactics in places like Guantanamo.
And on and on... Sure this is just a superfluous battle to fight, but can you imagine the political capital Bush might think he has if he was voted the Greatest American ever. Please don't let this mark on the nation come anywhere near the title of Greatest American. All help appreciated.
