I was shocked to see late on Friday (not) that another deal with Dubai was okayed by Bush. This deal is for a Defense plant. And I'm sure we all believe them when they say they checked them thoroughly.
"Bush approves Dubai takeover of defense plants

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- President George W. Bush approved Dubai's $1.24 billion takeover of Doncasters, a British engineering company with U.S. plants that supply the Pentagon, the White House said on Friday."

But what captured my attention even more, not giving me much time to chew on this latest sale, was the mention further down in the article about the last deal that got Americas attention-which was our governments attempt sell our ports to the Dubai government.
The article read "Dubai Ports World opted last month to transfer terminal operations at the six U.S. ports in question to a U.S. entity after a bipartisan furor over security fears."
Well, that FREAKED me out. No, the deal wasn't to transfer operations, let a lone from only 6 ports out of the twenty something ports. The Dubai Government wasn't supposed to be able to OWN US PORTS.
Well, I called Senator DeWine's office and spoke to his legislation aid and he confirmed that they just allowed the deal to go through. They had those hearings and then the Dubai government said they would transfer operations on 6 ports. I re-iterated that wasn't "the deal". Even the House said they were creating their own law that they didn't trust them to walk away from the deal.
But it was our Congress that walked away. They knew the Dubai Goverment bought the ports already, they didn't block the purchase and made a quiet deal to just have a different front man on the 6 major ports.
I hope everyone lets their Representatives know how upset they are and that you want to know what happened to the deal they announced in public, no foreign government owning our ports.
