I've been thinking about these protests that will occur in NY in a couple weeks, wondering if there was any way to make them seem like more than an enormous amount of people standing around being angry. This was one thought I came up with.
Daily themes for the protests. Like what the DNC did, but not as cheesy. The RNC is providing demonstrators 4 days to present a message. If enough people can agree on what message to send, it will be a more powerful visual. Change the message each day to present 4 issues to the viewing public.
Below are my ideas.
First, I thought it would be cool to select a protest theme that would counteract the RNC daily theme, but I can't find what they're themes are, not sure if they have any. So I kind of planned these themes around the prime time speakers.
Here they are, with the prime time speakers as well:
Day 1:
Mayor Michael Bloomberg
Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani
Senator John McCain
Protest Theme: Where's Osama?
Osama bin Laden has been swept under the rug by this administration, as described by He who must not be named. Signs like "Where's Osama?", or "Osama been Hiding", "What about Al Qaeda?", etc. Put Bush's biggest failure in the news on the first day of the convention.
-
Day 2:
First Lady Laura Bush
Secretary of Education Rod Paige
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Protest Theme: Economy
This seemed like a domestic policy lineup for prime time, so I figure a focus on the flailing economy may be appropriate here. Signs that point out the job loss, the rising inflation, the mounting deficit, tax burden on the middle class, the widening gap between the haves and the have nots, etc.
-
Day 3:
Mrs. Lynne Cheney
Vice President Dick Cheney
Senator Zell Miller
Protest Theme: Scandals
Dick's speaking here, perfect time to bring up the scandalous actions of this administration. Plame affair. Halliburton. Lies in the run to war. Chalabi. Abu Ghraib. Etc.
-
Day 4:
Governor George Pataki
President George W Bush
Protest Theme: W
Well, this is a hard one. The W himself is speaking here, obviously, so that's where the protests should be aimed. I can't narrow it down to a single issue here, though. His TANG service, or lack of it? His flip-flops? His pig-headedness in foreign affairs? His refusal to meet in person with anybody who is not 100% subservient to him (loyalty oaths, etc). His lack of appreciable intellect? Focus on a "Wave Goodbye" type theme? Just too hard to keep it to 1 issue.

Well, there's my ideas. I don't think they're all that good, I just like the idea of 4 seperate issues being presented in unison on the 4 convention days. I think the Osama bit on the first day would be good. After that, though, it could be refined better.
And then, somebody would have to take the ideas and run with them. I'm not going to actually be there, so this is a simple idea I'm throwing out there. I just think a little cooperation in message would be a little better than the confused conglomerate of angry people that I think is going to occur.
