Well, now that people are actually voting its good to see everyone come back down to earth. But with everyone caught up in the Iowa results and polls, I have a few thoughts on turnout.
Iowa turn out was up...way up. Hasnt been this high since 1988. Refrancing the NYT, turnout was above 120,000. That sets it at just about 1988 levels of around 125,000.
This is good. This is REAL good. Democrats are energized. They are ready to participate and get out there. And this was "just" Iowa. Agricultural state, mostly. Wait until you we get to heavy manufacturing states. And highly urbanized states with a community of color that is not quick to forget the Florida debacle.
Energized democrats are good for more then just electing a president. In november, the "anyone but Bush" vote is going to bring alot of people to the polls. Thats gonna give a boost to Dems in close races elsewhere, from School Board to Senate. Im not exspecting a retaking of the house or senate, but we can make some respectable gains there and very respectable gains on the local level.
Off Topic: Ive allways said I dont trust people with two first names. Clark, Westly. Dean, Howard. Kerry, Edwards, John. At this rate Im going to hafta vote for Liberman...ewwwww.
