The Instapundit blames Newsweek for causing deaths based on a possibly erroneous news story.
People died, and U.S. military and diplomatic efforts were damaged, because -- let's be clear here -- Newsweek was too anxious to get out a story that would make the Bush Administration and the military look bad.
You mean like an administration that was too quick to go to war on erroneous intelligence. Whose to blame for the total lack of fact checking on that one?
Despite this total inconsistency, I'm not sure I totally understand his point. We want the media to report. We can hardly blame people for reacting like stupid people. Clearly the Muslim world is not so different. Half this country thinks its perfectly fine to kill thousands for an erroneous report on the threat to our national security.
