I wanted to add a few things
on the Drudge smear of Clark today. As has been the case quite
frequently lately on Drudge and other right-wing sites, quotes
are being taken out of context in such a selective manner that it
completely changes the entire meaning of what was said.
Cat in her
blog has more on the exchange
between Clark and Perle during the question and answer section
with members of Congress after his remarks.
Josh Marshall
talks about the Drudge smear
and has
uploaded a PDF file of the
question and answer session. It is quite evident from the
transcripts that Clark was against the war in Iraq.
Right-wing pinup girl Anne Coulter joined in the attack by
trashing both Clark and the Democratic Party by saying "
Democrats
are utterly unfazed by the fact that Clark is crazier than a
March hare. They are so happy to have a pacifist in uniform, they
ignore his Norman Bates moments. When this peacenik criticizes
the war in Iraq, he can puff up his puny chest and cite his own
glorious experience with blood, sweat and tears".
The attacks from the right on both Clark and Dean have similiar
themes. One of the themes is to paint both Clark and Dean as
being pro-war and being "fake" anti-war candidates. The
right-wing site NewsMax has a headline today
Howard Dean, Unilateralist Warmonger and is running a photo of Clark with Rev. Jesse Jackson
with a caption that reads "
Uh oh: Clinton
"spiritual adviser" Jesse Jackson advises Clark".
Drudge has just added a new story that a team of people
are in Vermont
today
looking through pardons that were issued by Gov. Dean. Drudge
has had a number of other headlines all week on Dean and his
wife. With Clark's rise in the polls today it became his turn.
The smears will keep coming against Clark,
Dean, Paul O'Neill, and anyone else who might be a potential
threat to Bush. Regardless of which candidate you support, keep
in mind that we are all in this together and the whole purpose of
the right-wing smear machine is to destroy whoever becomes the
nominee.
