The RedState Morning Briefing is published each weekday on the right-wing site, RedState dot-com.
I have been producing a summary of the RedState Morning Briefing; this diary is a meta-post describing the Morning Briefing and the summary. I'll like to this post from the Morning Briefing Summary, as reference. I expect to be updating it as more questions come up.
Feel free to post potential FAQ questions in the comments.
- What stories do you choose?
I generally don't choose any of them. The stories for the briefing are chosen by Erick Erickson, the site editor. If I do highlight a story that's not in the official "Morning Briefing," I'll try to make that clear. Otherwise, you can assume that what you are reading is what Erick felt his readers most needed to read. It's pretty sad when you look at it that way.
- Why RedState?
RedState is the right-wing web site that most wants to be the Daily Kos of the right. The site functionality is extremely similar to Daily Kos: there are front-pagers, diaries, and a Recommended List.
- Who cares what they write on RedState?
That's a good question. Although RedState is one of the more prominent right-wing sites, it gets only about 10% of the traffic that Daily Kos gets. The people who run the site have some connections with national Republicans and they receive funding from somewhere (Eagle Publishing?).
The purpose of the right-wing noise machine is to shop around right-wing propaganda and see what sticks. It's instructive to know what's being sold.
There's also the possibility that RedState will publish a salient counterpoint to a left-wing position. They've done it occasionally in the past; right now they are busy whining about everything Obama, but they may get their wits back eventually. If they do, it's also valuable to know the other side of the debate.
