A local colleague is going to start at $75,000 more.
Kansas State University Provost Duane Nellis, who once walked away as a candidate for the University of Idaho presidency in March saying the job didn't pay enough -- was hired by the State Board of Education Wednesday to lead the school -- according to an Idaho Statesman story called:
State finds the extra money to lure Nellis to head University of Idaho.
Nellis is a favorite among many University of Idaho Vandal supporters who urged the board to find to put him in the presidency after he announced he was no longer a candidate, the Statesman reports. But when he withdrew last month, he said he was seeking less than the $370,000 he and his wife, Ruthie, make at Kansas State.
According to the story, Nellis makes $272,000, his wife $98,000.
"I was not being unreasonable, in my opinion," Nellis said.
Nellis' salary will be $335,000 — $298,000 from the state and $37,000 from the University of Idaho Foundation.
It would be interesting to hear from the Idaho State University Bengal Foundation.
Acccording to the press release about the hiring of ISU President Arthur Vailas from February, 2006, the State Board set Dr. Vailas' salary at $260,000 per year.
And what about the chief of that university with those Broncos?

Chris Petersen (Boise State University's football coach) you mean?
Submitted by Fort Boise
Wikipedia says he's getting $850,000 a year.

It's Bob Kustra, you douchebag.
Submitted by Nick Adams
Kustra makes just under $300,000. Petersen's bringing in more than his salary so he's earned it. Kustra's the savviest pol in the state and he's running a university that's actually adapting to the ridiculous political climate in Idaho. I hope Nellis can manage half as well.

Wikipedia wrong

Petersen earned well over $1.6mil once all of the donated salary dollars gets added. Only a small portion of that is directly made by the University. Of course, that was 2006-2007, so maybe his pay has dropped dramatically since he lost a single game.
Given that the UoI has a much higher standard of education than BSU, they should be capable of paying much more for a high caliber educator, rather than BSU's businessmen.

ouch, your rapier wit

I like Bob Kustra.
I don't like this person going by "Nick Adams" though. Seems to lack both a sense of humor and a sense of irony.
Not very creative with the free-wheeling insult either.

humor and irony
Submitted by Nick Adams
I actually have a very good sense of humor and irony. The constant petty jabs at BSU get under my skin, though. I've never really understood those who hold resentment for their rivals based on success in sports. I found Vandal fans to be unbearably arrogant during the "streak" in the eighties and early nineties. As are some of fellow BSU alum now that we're enjoying success. ISU and LCSC play valuable roles in Idaho's higher education structure, as do our community colleges.
I may have overreacted to the Chris Petersen/BSU shot. That's what I get for reading too many Statesman comments on BSU football and U of I Presidents.

... Kustra was a steal. And Nellis was not out of line as is apparent.

Vailas raise
Submitted by The Political Game
Should they give Vailas a raise, I can think of at least 73 people who would revolt... 73 people who used to have jobs on this ISU campus and are suddenly looking for work because we just can't afford to keep 'em.
On Topix.com, under a poll called: "Do you think Arthur Vailas is doing a good job?"
egg, from Vancouver, Canadawrote:
Vailas is not good, he has appointed inept people all across the university and it is common knowledge he has been looking for a job since he came to ISU.

Foghat, from Pocatello, ID wrote:
He is not doing a good job. He created and added unnecessary budget officer positions to every college at the university, which translates to hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted. The university deans and their assistant deans were more than capable of handling the everyday budgetary decisions for their respective colleges.
Others support Vailas:

Idaho State University will have a medical school.

Arthur Vailas is exactly what ISU needed.

Our nation seriously needs a new and exhaustive analysis of executive compensation.
