It's only the end of April, and we already have 15 open seats (two of which will be resolved in special elections later this year). Compare today's situation with our open seat watch from two years ago, when there were only three confirmed open seats (and one of those retiring Reps, Luis Gutierrez, later reneged!). Of course, the big difference is that this cycle is host to a few dozen gubernatorial races -- providing ample opportunities for House members (particularly beleaguered Republicans) to escape the DC scene.
Well . . . or this is a great opportunity for real grounded leaders who know who they are. The problem right now is the guys up front may not be real grounded leaders who know who they are. The real grounded leaders who know who they are might not have the ambition or we don't know their names because they are doing real work on the ground in the states, in business . . . making real legitmate livings and raising families. But we better hope we see them soon. And I don't doubt we will. Put another way, we need more partisanship, not less.

Um, no, that's NOT another way to put whatever the hell it is she wrote in that paragraph.
Still, it’s certainly ironic that so many Republicans, who have spent most of this decade accusing Democrats of being un-American and unpatriotic, are now talking treason against this country. When it comes to "America, love it or leave it," half of Texan Republicans want to leave it. Those bumper stickers that say "These colors don’t run"? Apparently they do. And their patriotism is apparently so skin-deep that it depends entirely on the occupant of the White House. If nothing else, perhaps it’s time for the GOP to stop calling itself the "party of Lincoln."

When the Obama administration crashes and burns, with approval ratings that fall through the floor, political scientists can trace its demise to its first hundred days. While Americans are careful not to consign a presidency they desperately need to succeed to the dustbin of history, the fact is that this president has moved — on issue after issue — in precisely the opposite direction of what the people want him to do.
