*unless I now want to pay for another cable box and a monthly usage fee.
A few months ago, despite an agreement with the Town of Southold, Cablevision of LI blocked public acess channels for users who didnt have their fancy IO high def cable box. One could still watch basic cable but now there was no access to local town board and school board meetings on TV unless you were willing to go Riverhead and get a new cable box and pay a monthly fee(per TV). We compromised and got one box for our living room TV for an extra $10.00 a month and went without public access on the TV upstairs
Being the only political junkie in my house, I usually watch MSNBC on the small TV upstairs while hubby and daughter watch CSI- CI, CSI-SVU, Law and Order or some such (IMHO) crap on the living room TV with the new fangled cable box. That worked just fine until this morning, when I went to turn on MSNBC and I get a message saying I now need the IO cable box to get it. Not that I care about them, but I now cant get TV Land, VH1, or MTV either. I can still get CNBC, CNN and FOX but no Keith or Rachel until I decide whether I want to go get another box and cough up yet another $10.00 a month.
I wouldnt be so annoyed if they did it to all the cable news channels but to single out MSNBC, which is the only one I watch regularly, seems a bit odd. Wonder if this is this just a Long Island thing or has Cablevision now cut off MSNBC to all it's customers who have yet to pay up for IO?
