Our latest weekly tracking poll results are in...along with a couple of fascinating national poll results testing the possibility of investigations into possible illegal activity by the Bush Administration.
Perhaps most significantly, 46% of Americans now think the country is on the right track. While "wrong track" is still a plurality, Americans appear to be more optimistic about the direction of the country than they have been in several years.
First off, let's check in with the fearless leaders of the two national parties:

El Presidente de los Estados Unidos is polling higher than he has in quite a while, enjoying favorables of 77% or higher in all regions except the South. He's at 76% with independents, and at 77% even with nonvoters: it's only the Republicans who raineth on his parade.
Meanwhile, the Republican Party, Congressional Republicans and their leaders are still, as former GOP Rep. Tom Davis would say, a brand of dog food so foul they'd take it off the shelves:
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are in negative-favorable territory...but they're polling like Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela compared to the clowns across the aisle:
46% of Americans believe the country is on the right track, a high-water mark for this poll. Only 49% of Americans believe we're on the wrong track, an excellent trend line:
That is perhaps the most striking number from this poll, and the most inspiring for President Obama and his merry band of Democrats.
It's not the only interesting news, however. A majority of Democrats also want to see the Bush administration investigated for possible abuse of power with the Department of Justice, for possible illegal domestic surveillance, and for possible use of torture in terror investigations. More here...
