Leave it to pollster Mark Penn to remind us all why Hillary failed to win the Democratic nomination in 2008. The pollster voices his concern that those who are better off might be offended if their taxes are raised to the point they were before George W. Bush was elected in 2000.
Many well-to-do voters who may have been in a magnanimous frame of mind when they cast their ballots last November are not nearly so rich now.
“If Obama comes down more heavily on them, how will they react? Will their support fade? We don’t know the answers,” said Mark Penn, a Democratic strategist who conducted polling for the Clinton White House and advised Hillary Clinton in the presidential campaign.
Barack Obama made it clear what he planned to do if elected and wealthy donors, along with the rest of us, gave anyway. It's also clear that tends to follow through with his plans as evidenced by his actions thus far. Those who make six figures are probably capable of understanding will likely happen. Some of the Clinton people do not understand this. They also do not understand the party's donor base shifted dramatically since the 19990's. We are no longer dependent on huge individual checks that take time to cajole one by one. With a single email, progressives like Al Franken can raise enough cash to from small donors to wage a successful campaign. Hillary finally got it too late, which is why she has a bright future ahead. Mark Penn, on the other hand, is lost in the woods using the same broken compass.
