Yeah, another meta and community diary. Go talk about your Big Serious Issue somewhere else.
Yes, you have a First Life. Like we haven't heard that one before. Oh, and I'm going to mention World of Warcraft and my WoW guild too, so you can write your own diary about your MMO, okay?
Now that that's out of the way, I'm taking it on myself to start asking for volunteers for Netroots Nation in Second Life, the virtual counterpart to Netroots Nation '09.
Why should you attend NNSL, and why should you volunteer? Well, below the fold I'll tell you.
First off, why NNSL?
Look, I liked going to Austin. I had a great time, and I got to meet a lot of great people in RL, participate in political discussions and have policymakers ask my opinion, avoid the media, and game was great too.
But I can't afford to do that every year. I can't afford to go to Netroots Nation until it's out in the West again, and I may not be able to swing that.
Netroots Nation in Second Life shares content with the RL Netroots Nation - by which, panels and discussions are streamed to Second Life and I hear there will be Netroots Nation panels with input from Second Life avatars.
And Netroots Nation in Second Life is a lot cheaper.
But all of this will require help.
It will require people at Netroots Nation willing to help set up the equipment for streaming. It will require people in Second Life to build the Netroots Nation in SL area (for nothing exists in Second Life that was not created by someone) people to help new Residents navigate SL, people to attend our year-round social events and fundraisers, people to network and connect in-world, just people.
And, as I'm reasonably sure most of you are people, this is where you can help.
For those of you who are WoW players, the Wreck List will be recruiting in Second Life. This will be a great way to get to meet some of us and find out what WoW is like and what being in a guild involves before putting your hard-earned shekels down on the game client.
And I even hope to have guild tabards and avatars for guildies so we can man (well, orc, Tauren, troll, bloodelf and umm undead) the booth and have a Netroots Nation presence as a guild.
Please stop by the official volunteer Ning pageand sign up. Here's a list of tutorials for getting started - let me know if I need to update these, btw. And feel free to IM MoodyLoner Korobase if you need help.
Looking forward to seeing you in August!
