Bush got a
DUI in Maine in 1976, which we learned about in 2000. What I never realized before is that his driver's license was
suspended from Oct. 1976 to July 1978, almost 2 years. During that time he met, dated and married Laura, and ran for congress in west Texas. How did he do all that without driving?
If some guy asked me out, then expected me to drive he'd be very disappointed. And what could her parents have thought of him?
"Laura, will you marry me and drive me all over this congressional district until I can get my license back?" [Writer's embellishment-not a direct quote] Puh-leeeze.
Frontline ran "The Choice" last week, and there's quite a bit of footage of W. driving around during that campaign. It's also in "Bush Family Fortunes." Do you suppose our fearless leader (gasp) drove on a suspended license?
And how drunk would someone have to be to get a DUI in 1976? This was before M.A.D.D, or any drunk driving crackdowns.
