By a mind-numbing
76-24 margin, Texas voters approved Porposition 2, a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
76-24, despite every major newspaper in the state, most of which are among the most right-wing in the nation, advocating its defeat.
We need to be honest about Texas. We're in a struggle to regain our country, against a well-financed enemy, and we need to be very rational about our resources and prospects in formulating our strategies.
Texas is gone.
There are, of course, millions of decent Texans. Just as there were millions of decent Germans during the Nazi regime. But, just as it is essential to be able to discuss Germany the place during Hitler's regime, in our efforts to prevent another Holocaust, we must be able to discuss Texas the place without incessantly worrying over the qualifier "not all Texans are dogshit."
The other message of 76-24 is that it is almost certain a large minority, if not an outright majority, of Texan "Democrats" voted for Proposition 2. This is an extremely important finding, for it suggests the Texas Democratic Party can in no way be trusted with managing resources collected from outside Texas.
There is no justification for voting for Prop. 2 and calling yourself a "Democrat." There is no point in spending scarce resources trying to the favor of such cretins. The train of civilization has passed them by.
Yesterday, a Democratic candidate for Attorney General in Texas derided Northeastern Democrats as "cocktail party elite inside-the-Beltway wimps." Never mind the absurdity of anyone suggesting Bush/Cheney are less any of this than the Democrats, the Texas Democratic Party appears to be trying to out-NASCAR the Republicans. Fine- more power to them.
But Nazi Germany was not defeated from within by any spirited resistance. Rather, it was defeated only by external forces. The true scourge that is Texas, a state where the Governor has told all gays to leave Texas, will only be overcome externally as well, thru cultural and economic isolation as well as the type of federal "judicial activism" that desegregated the South.
I hope Samuel Alito is asked about Proposition 2.
