There have recently been several diaries written re: outsourcing. Many jobs have been outsourced to other countries where the cost of production is lower. And, emotions run high whenever the topic of outsourcing is attempted to be justified.
I have never understood the rationale for moving jobs overseas, as the end result of doing so is the destruction of the economy of this society.
It is difficult for me to understand the pro-outsourcing opinion. So, I began surfing the net to find out more specific info re: the effects of outsourcing. In doing so, I found something else I would like to bring to your attention.

The article specifically states that the CWA (Communication Workers of America) and the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) are fighting the union-busting tactics of Ivan Seidenberg, of Verizon Wireless. Several Verizon employees were fired/disciplined for attempting to unionize their co-workers.
According to a finding by the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board), some were fired for engaging in protected activities, (i.e. union organization). Also, 1100 workers were fired when Verizon closed 2 of its call centers.
Approximately 150 CWA protesters, when demonstrating in front of a Verizon store at headquarters (in NYC) were greeted by a group of counter-protesters, who called their group "Billionaires for Bush". The Billionaires for Bush were driven to the rally in limos. Also, they wore fur coats, tuxes, and smoked cigars while chanting, "Ivan, Ivan, he's our man! If he can't outsource you, nobody can!"
Now compare this with the news of cuts in social programs, used to justify increased defense spending. Who benefits?
