This is one of the hardest posts I have ever had to write, and is being typed through tear-filled bleary eyes. I have argued and debated on Daily Kos for a couple years now and today fellow Kossack’s, I need your help. On June 11, 2009 I was diagnosed with Pre-B ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) I have chromosomal changes that mean, my only means of surviving, my only means of watching my 2-year old daughter grow up is a bone marrow transplant.
I have a 30% chance of my biological sibling matching me as a donor, after that, I must apply to the registries to find a match. Which currently has me at about 1 in 20,000 chance of finding a match. Here is where I need your help. Currently there is a drive until June 22nd, that will cover costs associated with adding yourself to the bone marrow registry. It’s a simple mouth swab test that could save someone’s life. Even if I am not the one who is saved, please consider helping someone else have a chance at a full life.
Please register. Thank you.
Online Bone Marrow Kit Request Form
Update:
I just started looking at statistics this morning. Its a commonly cited statistic for Caucasians' in need of a transplant. Those of mixed ancestry can have 1 in a million chance due to the lack of diversity in the BMD databases.
So PLEASE register especially if you are mixedd ancestry. There is a brother, sister, father, mother, daughter, son that may need you. Be there for them, please
