Having given my all to this campaign I'm bitterly frustrated and angry this morning (although mollified somewhat by the defeat of redistricting in Kulleefornia ... if it had won there and lost here I would be devastated). But the point of this final field report is not to lament our bitter defeat (or our dismally ineffective campaign), but to insist that we remember and be energized by the disgusting lies and hypocrisy of our enemies today. Burn it into your memories, Kossacks, the ways that they are gloating over their shameful victory:
SCANDALS GET LITTLE REACTION ON ISSUES
Cleveland Plain Dealer, Nov. 9, 2005
"Gov. Bob Taft's record-low popularity and a parade of scandals ensnaring Republicans could not persuade Ohio voters to embrace a Democrat-backed package of election reforms. ...
[more after the break]
"Voters soundly rejected all four ballot issues - an outcome that analysts predicted will energize Republicans stung by questions over their party's competence and character and slow the momentum of Democrats as they prepare for next year's statewide races.
"I think the scandal card has been played, and it didn't work that well," said David Hopcraft, spokesman for Ohio First, a group created to fight the reforms. [This after they ran radio ads that said "With all the corruption in Columbus, vote "No" so that politicians will be held more accountable" ... all lies, but definitely playing the "scandal card" to DEFEAT election reform!]
Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Bennett echoed his comments.
"The Republican Party is still the party of good government and reform," Bennett said. "Democrats continue to be the party of protest and pessimism." [This after defeating the issues by highlighting those Democratic officials who opposed them ... it's okay to use democrats to win, but then you still get to blame democrats for losing.] ... "
The lying scum. May they rot in hell, AFTER we finish thrashing the bastards in 2006 and 2008.
