What do you think of the issue of marriage and money? I was just wondering how each married couple here handles their money issues.
What is the standard for how young people handle their marriages and money? This is what I think is best.
I think that each spouse should have his or her separate retirement accounts and credit cards. I do think they should have one joint account for expenses they have in common--like children's education, clothing, the mortgage payment, and perhaps joint retirement.
I think this is a good idea because it protect women in case their marriages turn south. Also, if a husband were to die in a tragedy, she would be able to get credit and start over. I've heard horror stories where women have not built their own credit, had thier husband die, and then not be able to get credit to support her children.
So what arrangements do you think work best?
