Lindsey Graham says Mark Sanford can remain as Governor of South Carolina for the final eighteen months of his term -- but only if he reconciles with his wife.
I think if Mark can reconcile with Jenny, and that’s not going to be easy, that he can finish his last 18 months. He’s had a good reform agenda. And I do believe that if, if he can reconcile with his family and if he’s willing to try, that the people of South Carolina would be willing to give him a second chance.
Graham couldn't be more wrong to insert Sanford's marital status into the debate.
What matters are the official actions taken by Sanford, including going AWOL for five days, and apparently arranging for a state-sponsored trade mission to Argentina so he could visit his lover.
Those are the things that should disqualify Sanford from office, not private family issues which are none of the public's business.
