In case you have been in a cave over the last 36 hours, or perchance you don't care about sports, Major League Baseball player Rafael "I have never used steroids" Palmeiro tested positive for steroids this week. He has been suspended for 10 days from Major League Baseball.
You may remember that earlier this year, Congress decided that baseball players doing steroids was more important than national security, and held a hearing on that very issue.
The strongest condemnation of steroid use came from one Rafael Palmeiro, who twice donated $2,000 to 2000 and 2004 Bush Presidential Campaign. On March 17, 2005 Mr. Palmeiro stated under oath, in front of congress that:
I have never used steroids. Period. I don't know how to say it any more clearly than that. Never.
Of course, he was lying. To congress. But as we have seen with Michael Bolton's appointment to the U.N., lying to congress is no longer a big deal.
When caught redhanded in a lie, what does the liar do? Why tell more lies, of course!
In response to the positive test for steroids, Mr. Palmeiro stated that "It was an accident. It was not an intentional act on my part."
Unfortunately for Mr. Palmeiro, he tested positive for a serious steroid that could not have been ingested accidentally.
So, the important question of the day was what would Bush have to say about his good friend now?
What type of condemnation will Mr. Bush pronounce against Rafael Palmeiro's obvious falshoods? Pretty much just as you would expect:
Rafael Palmeiro is a friend. He testified in public and I believe him. He's the kind of person that's going to stand up in front of the klieg lights and say he didn't use steroids, and I believe him. Still do.
I have some oceanfront property in Arizona that I fully intend on selling to Mr. Bush.
But first, I think we should try and create as much public awareness of Mr. Bush's comments as possible. This is a MAINSTREAM issue. Most people don't give a damn about politics, deficit concerns, or even global warming. But the people do love them some baseball.
The sports talk stations are being overwhelmed by folks attacking Rafael Palmeiro for being such a hypocrite.
Pointing out Mr. Bush's comments will only further reinforce the fact that Mr. Bush is completely out of touch with reality.
Batshit crazy it is.
