This is an oped piece from today's Atlanta Journal and Constitution. The author lives in Cobb County and was in the Naval Reserve during Vietnam.
He starts out by saying:
Places such as Canada and Sweden offered refuge for those willing to trade citizenship for conscience. Some chose prison. Both were sacrifices
But, there was another out. Service in a Reserve or National Guard unit. Bush and I both chose this way to dodge the draft.
But there our paths diverged
The author then goes on to say
Bush's duty and my duty were in no way predicated on honor, patriotism or service to society. We were saving out butts, pure and simple. We took the easy way out
