The mortal fallacy of Capitalism is that it is an ideology founded on fiction, not on reality. The cornerstone, illusory as it is, of Capitalism is that Earth's supply of physical resources is infinite....which claim, recognized by reasonable adults to be delusional, has become an institutionalized delusion that can only lead to some catastrophic result, such as is increasingly the world today.
Capitalism, the so-called "free-market" economy, is an economic system whose main premise is that a "naturally equitable" supply and demand distribution of resources/products equation exists wherein supply always can, eventually, meet demand so long as private capitalists (individuals, corporations), possessors of capital are free to invest and profit from capital they control, are enabled, protected and rewarded by their governments to run a society's economy as they, (in the case of $US) capitalUSt$, see fit .... in other words, run an economy in a way that most benefits capitalUSt$.
On Earth, there is no infinite supply of anything; although, an argument could be made that there is an infinite supply of stupidity, which unfortunately far too many Americans can be trusted to habitually want to disprove by showing they have cornered the market on the supply of such.
Advocates of capitalUSt$-style Capitalism [what Italy's Benito Mussolini first labeled "Corporatism", then gave it the Italian name of "Fascism" ( 'fasci', Italian for a faggot of, or a bundle, of sticks ... such as would be used for a fire to cook with) ] are easily identified by the delusions which they espouse. With regard to "climate change questions", many such self-righteous advocates invariably demean the intelligence, as well as the patriotism, not to mention morality, sexuality, religion, etc. when allowed, of those who suggest or imply that Earth's atmosphere is finite; that the waters on Earth and every living creature in them is finite; that the supply of fossil fuels, or any other "resource" for that matter, is finite; that to possibly avert catatrophic consequences for mankind and most of existing life on Earth, there must be internationally recognized limits to the amounts of by-products of industrialization introduced into the environment which can alter Earth's climate.
To the extent that humankind currently exists at all, it is correct to say that mankind has evolved successfully. Yet, for any single, individual creature living in contradiction to Earth's finite realities, living in denial of Newton's "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" cause/effect law, the consequences to the well-being and lifespan of that single being may be effectively nihl, it cannot then be extrapolated that the consequences of a whole society, or the whole of mankind living in denial of such reality will be nihl.
Simple definitions of "stupidity" being 'a poor ability to understand or to profit from experience; a lack of intelligence, perception, or common sense ', it sould be asked:
" How long can humankind expect to survive when one of its major characteristics is its retentiveness and tolerance of stupidity ?"
But then, "being American" should not to be conflated with "humankind" as a whole. In fact, to a shameless degree for many an "American", being "American" is to be a constituent of an existence that rises above humankind, an existence that is accountable only to laws of, the capitalUSt$ convenience of the enforcement of the laws of, its capitalUSt$ leaders own making. To a society that prides itself on its "representative" political system, it is no surprise that stupidity is well represented.
