Supporters of health insurance reform plan a Rally on Monday, August 31 in Newport Beach, California to show support for the public option. This event is dedicated to the memory of Sen. Edward Kennedy.
I would urge everyone in SoCal to consider showing up on Monday, we need to push ourselves away from the computer and go out on the streets to show the wingnuts that there are plenty of people who are so committed to health insurance reform that they will actually do something!

* Congressmember John Campbell, (District 48 - South Orange County) has refused to listen to the voices of his constituents requesting a public townhall meeting on the issue of public option and health reform. Community leaders in South Orange County have organized to march on Campbell’s office in protest and to send a message to all Orange County Congressmembers before they return to Washington from their summer hiatus.
* Community organizers are dedicating the march to the memory of Senator Ted Kennedy, champion of health reform and the public option.
* Alan Boinus, lead organizer from "Free Enterprise Advocates" said, "If John Campbell won’t give us a townhall meeting on health reform and the public option, we will bring one to him." Boinus continued, "The Community is particularly outraged over Campbell wasting so much time over the so-called ‘birther’ issue instead of engaging with his constituents about health reform."
* Organizers state that although Congressmember Campbell claims to represent what is perceived to be "conservative" Orange County, that in fact the Congressional district he represents voted for President Obama and the majority of voters is clearly behind the idea of reforming health care.
* Marchers will be displaying American flags in a show of support for "American values" and will be bringing personal letters demanding public option, which will be delivered to Campbell’s office on the day of the march.
* Participating organizations include Free Enterprise Advocates; Organizing for America; Yes We Can!; Insure the Uninsured; The Orange County Federation of Labor; SEIU, Local 721; Laguna Beach Democratic Club; Canyon Democratic Club; Newport Beach Women's Democratic Club; Laguna Woods Democratic Club; Progressive Democrats of America; Health Care Access Network (HCAN); Latino Coalition for a Healthy California, The Liberal OC, Women For: Orange County, Orange County Equity Coalition and many more.
* Opportunities for interviews and live feeds will be made available to the press. The press will also be allowed to draw "random" letters written to Congressman Campbell from our "public fishbowl of letters."
