VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.
Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean was endorsed Sunday by Virginia U.S. Rep.Robert C. Scott, who cited Dean's commitment to civil rights, education and health care for all Americans.
"We need better leadership, and Howard Dean can provide it," Scott said in a statement.
Dean said he was proud that Scott has joined his campaign. ` U.S. Rep.Scott's support and counsel will be invaluable as we work toward the February primary and beyond to take our country back," Dean said in a statement.
Scott, the only black in Virginia's congressional delegation, represents the 3rd District, which encompasses parts of Richmond, Newport News and Norfolk.
Scott was to officially endorse Dean at a news conference Sunday in Virginia Beach. Virginia's primary is Feb. 10.
