What a perfect way to end a day that saw Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee join forces with Republicans in an effort to kill meaningful health care reform:
A Senate committee has voted to restore $50 million a year in federal funding for abstinence-only education that President Barack Obama had sought to eliminate. [...]
Two Democrats Kent Conrad of North Dakota and Blanche Lincoln of ArKansas joined all 10 committee Republicans in voting "yes" on the measure by Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah.
How wingnut, reactionary crazy is this? It comes at the same time that schools in Texas, where they are so far to the right that they are working to have textbooks include "significant conservative advocacy organizations and individuals, such as Newt Gingrich, Phyllis Schlafly, and the Moral Majority," are shifting away from abstinence-only education because -- go figure -- it doesn't work.
Yet two Democrats, who spent the day helping out the insurance industry at the expense of millions of Americans, decided to cap it all off by joining with their Republican brethren in pretending that "just say no" is an effective means of birth control. Idiots.
