I have something sweet for you today...
...cake. Birthday cake, to be specific. My friend M's birthday was today (shared with another friend of mine, the lovely virgomusic, wish her a happy birthday if she's around TC!) so dinner Club got together for.. well, dinner - and cake. Let me tell you about the delicious cake Mr. Brillig made yesterday...
First, he made a lovely decadent chocolate cake, two round layers. Plan was to cool them then frost with chocolate buttercream frosting. They're cooling, I hear Kid Brillig go into the kitchen for something, and then I (and likely the neighborhood) hear "No!!! BAD DOG!!!!" I went running, took one look, and grabbed the dog while calmly telling KB to "get your father."
This would be one of the layers - or rather, what was left of it:
Mr. Brillig took it rather well, all things considered. He didn't really want to work on the demo that's due at his office tomorrow. While the dog spent quality time in the next room gated away from the kitchen, he made another cake. The dog was monitored closely, and never got within sighting distance of the cooling layers. At 11pm last night, we were making frosting and got the cake assembled. Having just returned from the birthday celebration, I can vouch that this cake was delicious! Here's what it looked like; the dog was in the other room :-)
Don't deny it, I hear you thinking over there... "but wait, there was one layer left over. What happened to the extra layer? Did Casa Brillig waste cake???
Never fear, we would not do such a thing with chocolate cake. We cut it in half, and frosted it!
p.s. The dog was fine, no ill effects from the chocolate.
